According to the People’s Daily, China’s influential newspaper, China’s first 3D-printed human implant, artificial hip-joint, has been approved by the State Food and Drug Administration.

This is important news in its own right and in terms of greater deployment of technology. However, perhaps more significantly, this is a high-profile example of China’s growing innovation. This is a very different China to being the world’s low-cost producer of consumer goods.
