Read John Bolton‘s highly cited op-ed in the Hill. Bolton warns that in the last six months, Iran has made six more months of progress toward posing a mortal threat to America and its allies.

Bolton is a very heavy-hitter and has often been decribed as a neoconservative.

The article is critical of Obama‘s deal with Iran and more importantly it cites Trump’s team’s turning a blind eye to the evidence coming from Iran.

Iran’s geopolitical influence has increased because of Obama’s disasterous Middle East policy. Now Iran looks to gain leverage in both Iraq and Syria because of Trump’s weakness. Already right wing sources in Israel are arguing in favour of Israeli unilateral action against Iranian interests.

Surely, it’s time to remove Team Trump before they precipitate another Middle East war and possibly WWIII?

According to this deeply worrying article from the NYT, President Vladimir V. Putin has sent a military advance team to Syria and is taking other steps that the United States fears could lead Russia to expand its military support for President Bashar al-Assad, administration officials said.

It looks like Russia wants to strengthen her geo-political position in the Middle East.

Presumably, Russia would  resist greater Western direct intervention in the Middle East?

Meanwhile, President Putin is keeping his cards close to his chest but on Friday, he did suggest ‘an international coalition to address terrorism and extremism’.

Given Obama‘s foreign policy record, we could be witnessing a new escalation in the Middle East?
