This is a seriously irresponsible headline from the Telegraph. The article claims according to a new study that high cholesterol ‘does not cause heart disease‘ so treating it with statins a ‘waste of time’.
Within the article itself, it is cited that others experts question both the methodology and the conclusions of the new study.
Clearly other research studies are required before it is safe to change medical practice. Patients with high cholesterol should consult their doctors and be guided accordingly. But prevailing policies for mass deployment of statins for the elderly perhaps need reevaluation?
Thoughts?
