EurActiv reports that as COP21 opened in Paris, Bill Gates announced the “Breakthrough energy coalition” uniting the efforts of two dozens of other billionaire philanthropists such as Richard Branson, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos to sponsor energy that doesn’t produce carbon.

Personally, I’m all for a cleaner planet and protecting the environment but the devil is in the detail. Let’s see what emerges from COP21. The LA Times has already claimed the victory as an Obama success.

I’m old enough to remember when technology professionals recommended “Big Blue” to play safe. Of course, that was the old IBM which we all admired.

These days IBM is a hotchpotch of service businesses, cobbled together. IBM is like a giant sausage machine – sadly, customers seem subordinated.

It’s time for the financial markets do do their magic on IBM. I wonder when hedge-funds will start selling short on IBM? Speculators will argue that the parts are worth more than the whole – time for financial dismemberment…
