The Guardian reports that the French Council for the Muslim Religion is to implement a permit to preach in a bid to root out extremists and ensure a ‘tolerant and open Islam’.

This simple measure will hopefully start to weed out, isolate, and hopefully exclude extremist clerics.

I wonder if a similar initiave would work in the UK?

This short article in Politico argues that it’s pivotal to take the fight to the preachers and financiers of terror.

The article is not exactly challenging Saudi Arabia per se, rather wealthy Saudis. Given the important trading links with the West in energy, defense and financial services, this seems to be an area where few Western politicians want to explore. However, leading newspapers, like the UK’s Independent are raising difficult questions about ISIS financing.

To be fair, my colleague, John Gelmini, has been raising these issues for some time and I’ve challenged him to provide evidence – slowly the evidence is creeping into the mainstream media.

I worry that Western governments, like the US, the UK and France, are blurring strategic interests in defense, energy and trade etc. This is why it’s important to clarify strategy, rather than follow Obama’s piecemeal/incremental approach to foreign policy in Syria and Iraq.
