For something completely different, I recommend reading this article by Pravda, the leading Russian newspaper. The article claims that Turkey and the UK are going to build their own army bases in the Middle East.

Last time I checked, both the UK and Turkey were members of NATO and that included the US too. I know things are moving really fast with BREXIT on the one hand and Turkey’s strategy for full EU membership but I find the Pravda article a bit off target. Armenian genocide is a reality and the Ottoman and Russian empires are surely just part of history?

Whilst I sense that history will not be kind to Obama’s foreign policy, the US is still much more influential in the Middle East than Pravda would have us believe.

Russia has ‘more proof’ ISIS oil routed through Turkey, Erdogan says he’ll resign if it’s true — RT News

RT cites Vladimir Putin at the Paris climate conference, saying that Russia has received additional intelligence confirming that oil from deposits controlled by Islamic State is moved through Turkey on an industrial scale. Meanwhile it reports that President Recep Erdogan said he will resign if this is confirmed.

In a few weeks, the prevailing view has emerged that ISIL oil is largely marketed via Turkey. Meanwhile, Turkey’s President is right to say, ‘Show me the evidence’. Transactions of this size must leave a paper-trail which can be forensically examined – otherwise we are looking at large-scale corruption – in any event, there has to be evidence.
