via BBC News – NHS errors costing billions a year – Jeremy Hunt.

The UK Health Minister highlights the cost of errors at approaching GBP2.5 billion. Basically, he appeals for a greater quality of care to cut avoidable errors. This includes legal claims of over GBP1 billion. Meanwhile, nurses claim that wards are understaffed and the Labour Party argue that billions of pounds have been wasted on ineffective reorganization.

Against a background of rising Ebola, there is a place for strengthening basic quality procedures. There is no room for shortcuts with Ebola as we have seen in the US.

For me, as an expert in delivering strategy, the UK’s National Health System (NHS) is probably beyond reform and should be replaced by a new model of  public healthcare, based upon Best Practice. The UK should pehaps look to Italy which has the most effective healthcare in Europe.
