Personally, I tend to agree with Stiglitz’s slightly pessimistic outlook. The benefits of renewed growth are going to the few but the poor and middle classes are likely to continue to struggle in the year ahead. Ultimately, there is a weakness in political leadership to address the challenges; this is most marked in Europe, and matters will not be helped by Angela Merkel’s accident.
