Dr Alf is right and the Daily Mail is wrong because UK longevity is the worst in Western Europe other than Greece and cancer survival rates and the incidence of cancers are worse in the UK than anywhere else in Europe. Dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK followed by cancer and then heart disease.
Cancers kill more people in the UK than is the case in other European countries because of our poor diet, use of intensive farming methods, pollution ,excessive alcohol use at practically double the global level according to the latest WHO report. Carcinogens are present in mechanically recovered meat in plastics, food additives, in our air and in our water.
Also as people go on more long haul holidays to places where their often pale skin is not used to strong sunlight so moles develop and become malignant.
The legacy of smoking, vaping and a failure to engage vitamin supplementation to offset a vitamin deficient diet plays a part as does the divorce and separation rate which causes stress and is higher in the UK than anywhere else in Europe.
It is time to Napalm the NHS and start again with a best practice public health-care system.
