CNN reports that US intelligence and law enforcement agencies believe that ISIS and other terrorist organizations have developed innovative ways to plant explosives in electronic devices that FBI testing shows can evade some commonly used airport security screening methods.

This is deeply disturbing news. Having travelled extensively, I have noticed wide variations in airline security. For example, US airports seem to deploy the latest technology, compared to say the UK where human intervention is much more prevalent.

So with technology trailing terrorist expertise, surely it’s right to limit the carrying of laptops from high risk countries?

This is an insightful must-read op-ed in the NYT. Nicholas Kristof, the author, argues that the Islamophobia festering in the U.S. is fed by extremism fostered by the Saudis.

But no doubt we will see Obama try to appease Saudi Arabia. Why?
