According to this interesting article, ex-Greek chancellor, Yanis Varoufakis, issued a strong warning to Jeremy Corbyn on Friday, advising the new Labour leader to move on from discussing his opposition to austerity.

Personally, I think that Corbyn needs some top class economic advice and I believe he has consulted some renowned economists. BUT I do not rate Yanis Varoufakis as a top-class economist, nor a particularly succesful finance minister. Varoufakis claim to fame is probably his arrogence. He’s a fine hard-left politician but married to a wealthy woman.

On the subject of austerity, the young Trudeau’s win in Canada has shown that there is still room for anti-austerity politics.

Clearly, the latest deal is not sustainable. Despite the approval of the deal in Greece, with riots in the streets, it’s questionable whether any Greek government can deliver the latest austerity. It is clear to every expert, Greece needs massive loan write-offs and foreign investment & without it, Greece will again fail. So perhaps the velvet Grexit still offers a way out!
