Merkel Feels Heat From Backing Prosecution of Erdogan Satirist – Bloomberg

Bloomberg reports that Chancellor Angela Merkel, already weakened by Europe’s refugee crisis, came under fire over the weekend for granting a Turkish request to prosecute a German satirist who derided President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Once again Merkel has been outfoxed by Erdogan.

With Germany being the strongest country in Europe, many people are deeply worried at Angela Merkel’s policy shifts in favor of Turkey.

Personally, I struggle to see Merkel surviving. The immigration/refugee crisis will deepen as the summer advances and all the failures will be placed at Merkel’s door.

Is it time for Germany to remove Angela Merkel?

Turkey‘s newspaper, Hurriyet, reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has harshly slammed the West over “insensitivity” amid the growing refugee crisis, while announcing the “joint fight against global terrorism” as a key issue to be discussed during the G-20 Summit in Turkey mid-November.

No doubt President  Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will take every opportunity to gain more favorable press in the Western media ahead of the G20 conference. He is right to question the effectiveness of US and European policy in both Iraq and Syria. The strategic challenge is terrorism and the consequence is the refugee crisis. This point is missed in the Economist lead which praises Angela Merkel’s policy on immigration.
