This visit by the Chinese Prime Minister to the UK is an exercise in power.
At first, the Foreign Office and the cabinet did not want the Chinese Prime Minister visiting the Queen but the Chinese would have none of it, such is their power.
They want to deal with the person who really calls the shots (the organ grinder as opposed to the monkey), not least because we need them and their money a lot more than they need us.
This is true of the money, we need to rebuild our outdated infrastructure and businesses, too much of which has been wasted, siphoned off, or worse.
This argument about access to the Queen was denied by the Government and played down by the UK press.
The reality is that the UK is of importance to the Chinese as a springboard into Europe and via the Queen and the City a new route into the Commonwealth and the power structure.
David Cameron and his ministers are pretty much an irrelevance to the Chinese because they represent a lame duck government, which may not be around in 11 months time.
Who the NEXT Prime Minister will be is of interest to them so since the choice has already been made in Copenhagen by the Bilderberg steering committee, the Chinese Prime Minister needs to hear the choice from the horses mouth.
The newspaper coverage of the visit, here in the UK, was poor, designed to mislead, and fails to acknowledge any of these realities.
When the Chinese say, for example, that they wish to “clear up misconceptions” about themselves that is their polite and face saving way of telling our politicians and civil servants that they are increasingly in the driving seat and must be taken seriously.
There will be more of this as time goes on, especially as we run down our forces to the point where we cannot project power overseas and only have 17 maritime escort vessels to protect our shipping when we supposedly have an export target of £1 trillion gbp by 2020, much of which will not be “invisibles” from the City of London.
Our situation is made more precarious by our failure to build generating capacity and our inability to grow enough food for ourselves.
The referendum about Scottish independence is an irrelevance in this regard because like me they think that the Scots will not want to give up the £6000 gbp a head they receive via the combination of the Barnett Formula, free tuition fees, free Adult Social Care, no prescription charges and a disproportionate share of EU rebates, petroleum tax revenues sent northwards to buy votes etc.
If they were to have a mental block caused by “Braveheart Syndrome” then the UK would lose its place on the Security Council making the UK even less important than it has become already.
The £32 billion NHS time bomb caused by obesity, elderly dementia sufferers and diabetes will explode with great ferocity in the next decade unless UK productivity rises in the working population to enable us to pay our way.
