This is an excellent MUST READ report by the Telegraph.
via Secret wind farm report into house price blight – Telegraph.
The article focuses on Government concerns about the impact of wind farms on rural property prices. This will be a serious worry for a Government trying to create a political feel good factor ahead of the next election from rising property prices – of course, the rising property prices are on the back of Government guarantees for home loans of first time buyers.
For me, this latest action shows an absence of coordinated policy evaluation. Most worrying, the Government’s independently requested study has bypassed DEFRA, the central government with responsibility in this area. It is seriously worrying that the Government is bypassing the Whitehall bureaucracy.
Let me turn this to two open questions:
- Is the the secret wind farm report a symptom of the UK Government‘s disenchantment with Whitehall?
- If so, what are the
implications for Whitehall if the Tories return to power after the next election?
Any views?
