Obesity in Latin America: Battle of the bulge | The Economist

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

This is an excellent, MUST READ article by the Economist.

via Obesity in Latin America: Battle of the bulge | The Economist.

The article focuses upon rising obesity in South America because the “Big Food” companies are apparently getting increasing numbers  of people addicted to sugar, salt and fat.

The developing world is a huge growth market for US junk food companies. They use aggressive marketing, peer pressure by consumers and throw money at their critics; what consumers think is “cool” turns into an addiction and ultimately is likely to shorten their lives with health problems. There is ample hard evidence that excessive  sugar, salt and fat is causing a healthcare pandemic.

Last year, I was in China and I was stunned at the rapidly escalated obesity challenge, all because of junk food.

Any thoughts on how to effectively halt the global growth of junk food?
