Opinion – Teacher rapes girl, 4, in Bangalore school – The Times of India – John Gelmini

I am not sure that Dr Alf is right as well-meaning as he means to be.

India is a deeply corrupt country, run by a Government which is afraid to take the issue of rape seriously because the male population of that country is predominantly chauvinistic and largely in denial.

What would concentrate their minds is a refusal by the West to outsource a single piece of work there and a further refusal on our part to outsource software development, call center provision or textile manufacturing there, or allow any further immigration from that country.

Hit them in the pockets hard enough and then you will see rape and bride burning and the worst excesses of the so-called Hindu caste system rejected.

If they bleat about interference, refuse bank operating licences and threaten re-nationalization of the steel industry starting with Port Talbot, South Wales.

The Indian Government understands the language of money and it understands the effect of social media opprobrium on their ability to attract inward investment.

America and ourselves (in the UK) need to apply the necessary pressure and make Mr Modi bend to our collective will and then trigger the correct actions on the part of the Indian police and a male culture, long past its sell by date.
