ScienceDaily cites new research from the University of California. It reports that scientists have found that people who drink coffee appear to live longer. The research found that drinking coffee was associated with lower risk of death due to heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and kidney disease. Importantly, people who consumed a cup of coffee a day were 12 percent less likely to die compared to those who didn’t drink coffee and this association was even stronger for those who drank two to three cups a day — 18 percent reduced chance of death.

Personally, I’m great coffee lover. I treat myself to the following every day:

  • A mug of fresh black coffee with no sugar with breakfast
  • Each morning, I have a double expresso in winter or an ‘expresso freddo’ in summer, both without sagar

Remember that the research is about coffee and when you start adding other ingredients like flavouring there are health risks. Also there are risks from too much coffee.

Enjoy 🙂

The BBC reports that the US Treasury has criticised as ‘unfair’ tax rulings by the European Commission, following a demand that Apple hands over €13bn in unpaid tax.

Similarly, the Irish Finance minister immediately said that Ireland would appeal.

Personally, I think the ruling is very fair and should be seen as a warning to other large businesses trading in Europe that the days of near zero tax are over. This is an example of where the might of the EU is able to stand up for justice and fair competition. Large corporations have often been above the law for too long. It’s time for corporations to pay their just dues.
