The Japan Times reports this Reuters breaking news that the California legislature on Friday approved a bill to legalize physician-assisted suicide for terminally ill patients despite opposition from religious and disability rights groups. This is a must-read.
In my mind, this is truly pioneering leglislation. Reaction will be carefully monitored around the world, as politicians sharpen their arguments on this hotly contested issue.
Of course, there will be major push-back from conservatives, religious and disability rights groups but on the back of liberalism towards gays and smoking soft drugs, I expect growing acceptance of legal physically-assisted suicide.
