the privatized water companies are acting as an oligopoly but because there are too few of them there is no effective competition.
David Cameron “looking into ” the situation is carte blanche for these water companies to do as they like as whatever David Cameron “looks into” results in absolutely nothing being done or even if it is the recipients of his strictures ignore him.
The solution is more water companies and punitive action against people like Thames Waters’ directors, who until recently, presided over 50% leakage rates, and the worst customer service in the country, barring South West Water the prime polluters in that area.
Leakage rates, in Merkel’s Germany, are in contrast, just 5% compared to an average of 35% in this country.
Perhaps, it is time time for the UK Government to force the sale of the UK’s water companies to the likes of the German utilities?
