Charlemagne: Crank up the motor | The Economist

This is an excellent MUST READ article from the Charlemagne column of the Economist. Check it out!

Charlemagne: Crank up the motor | The Economist.

The article debates the return of the Franco- Germany axis, and compares “good stitch-ups” versus “bad stitch-ups”. Those likely to be stitched up are the smaller Euro countries, especially Southern Europe, plus the non-Euro countries, in particular, the UK.

The bit that will really hurt South European countries is that they have been bullied by the EC but the same rules don’t seem to apply to France.

Perhaps if the UK had a stronger political leader, the UK could have led an alternative power axis in Europe; but I don’t really see that happening with David Cameron – do you?

So an alternative headline might have been:

Return of the Franco-German stitch-up?
