I have sympathy for both sides. Many in the UK, for example, will worry about the Hong Kong Chinese. The Hong Kong Chinese are a tough group of people, used to looking after themselves. If they do not think they have a good deal as part of China, they will join their relatives in Vancouver or other Chinese communities overseas. Personally, I think that the People’s Daily presents a balanced viewpoint – namely, that the Hong Kong people are now hurting themselves by their actions.
