The Snowden affair has definitely gone global and promises rich pickings for the next generation of spy thriller authors. On a more serious note, the Chinese intervention is an embarrassment for the US which has tried to retain the moral high ground.

Many argue that individual liberties have been subordinated, debased or devalued in recent years.

Let me pose this differently, as open question:

  1. Have democracies subordinated individual liberties in recent years? If so
  2. Why have democracies subordinated  individual liberties?
  3. What should be done to restore  individual liberties?

Any thoughts?
