So the rain stopped and the sun came out on Sunday, along with thousands of tourists of every nationality.

What really caught our attention was a dog sunbathing in a window overlooking a canal and taking a disinterested view of the tourists, especially those roaring past in speed boats. For the tourists, of course, the dog was an extremely photogenic opportunity.

Sitting here in our room in Frankfurt, we are still talking of our fantastic visit to Brugge over the weekend.

It was a wonderful experience wandering down the narrow lanes and cobbled streets, viewing the exquisite architecture, some buildings dating back to circa twelfth century, with each facade being different to its next door neighbour.

Wondering round the beautiful market square,  we saw medieval houses but unfortunately arrived just a bit too late for the Saturday market (for more information see the Markt). Nearby is the famous Burg which houses the Helig Bloed Basiliek (the Basilica of the Holy Blood), Bruges‘ holiest church, plus one of the oldest and most photographed town halls in Belgium (the Stadhuis) and numerous art galleries and museums nearby.

Not to forget to mention, this is the city for chocoholics, with innumerable shops whose windows are graced with tempting handmade Belgian chocolates, plus…
