mainly macro: Economics and the Immigration debate -Simon Wren-Lewis-Mainly Macro

This is a thoughtful blog by Oxford economist, Simon Wren-Lewis. It’s WELL WORTH A READ. Check it out!

via mainly macro: Economics and the Immigration debate.

In this article, Wren-Lewis compares immigration to the austerity debate and cites to some good evidence to embellish his argument. For me, the evidence is clear, encouraging immigration is normally economically beneficial. BUT, I think that immigration is only half of the problem.

Personally, I think that the immigration debate often misses the bigger challenge which I express as an open question:

What should the UK do about its hard-core unemployed, facing economic, social, and political challenges?

Any thoughts?
