Jared Bernstein is a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington and a former chief economist to Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.

 

As I focused on the headline theme in the US, my mind wandered to Europe where the problems are similar but also very different. There is currently an enormous disparity between North and South Europe caused by the Euro and European economic policy that is causing inequality and social imobility. Let me express it differently as an open question:

 

How should European policy be improved to reduce inequality between both European countries, and social classes within countries, to promote greater social mobility?

 

Any thoughts?
